What is Thyroid Cancer?
The Thyroid gland is present in the frontal region of neck below thyroid cartilage, has two lobes and is butterfly shaped. The two lobes of thyroid gland are connected by isthmus.
The type of cancer that begins in the cells of thyroid gland is called thyroid cancer. This cancer is more common in women. This cancer can occur in people of all ages.
Symptoms of thyroid cancer may be different in different types of thyroid cancer. But most common symptoms are listed below:
- Feeling difficulty while swallowing
- Voice change
- Swelling in neck
- Swelling of thyroid gland
Causes of Thyroid Cancer
The main causes of thyroid cancer are:
- Family history of thyroid cancer
- Exposure of neck to certain types of radiations. For example doing neck’s radiation therapy.
Types of Thyroid Cancer
The main types of thyroid cancer are:
Anaplastic Carcinoma: Very rare and very dangerous type of cancer that spreads very rapidly.
Papillary Carcinoma: Most common type, Spreads slowly and mostly affect women in their childhood.
Follicular Carcinoma: May come back again after treatment and may spread.
